Seychelles is a country in Africa, known for its pristine beaches and coral reefs. It has a population of nearly 135 thousand, making it the 194th largest country in the world. Its capital is Victoria. Seychelles has a tourism-based economy with growing fishing sector.
Today, there are descendants of the Indian, Chinese and Gran’bla making up ethnic communities in Seychelles, although most people are of black African origin, often with mixed European or Asian heritage. Seychelles has no indigenous population, and the current population is composed of immigrants and their descendants.
The ethnic breakdown is 93% Seychellois Creole, 3% British, 1.8% French, 0.5% Chinese, 0.3% Indian and 1.2% other.

The Aldabra giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea), from the islands of the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles, is one of the largest tortoises in the world. In 1979, Curieuse and surrounding waters were declared the Curieuse Marine National Park in order to protect the native wildlife. Between 1978 and 1982, a conservation project relocated Aldabra giant tortoise from Aldabra to Curieuse. Today, it is the home of more than 300 Aldabra giant tortoise, some staying around the Ranger’s Station and the rest roaming around elsewhere on the island.
