New Hampshire

First in Independence: Six months before the Declaration of Independence was signed, New Hampshire became the very first American colony to declare its freedom from Great Britain. It also formed the very first state constitution in the nation.
Extreme Winds: Mount Washington in the White Mountain National Forest holds the record for one of the highest wind speeds ever recorded at 231 miles per hour (recorded in 1934).
Tiny Coastline: Despite its heavy maritime history, New Hampshire features the shortest ocean coastline of any U.S. state bordering the ocean, measuring just 18 miles in length.
