An Oil Well Under the Capitol: The Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City is the only capitol building in the world with an active, working oil well on its grounds. It was drilled in 1941 and extends directly beneath the statehouse.
The Shopping Cart was Invented There: Grocery store owner Sylvan Goldman invented the first shopping cart in Oklahoma City in 1937. He came up with the idea by placing baskets on a folding chair with wheels!
The Nation’s Only 5-State Border: Cimarron County, located at the far end of the Oklahoma Panhandle, is the only county in the entire U.S. that touches five different states: Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma itself.
